Transport, Climate and Sustainability Global Status Report – 4th Edition
SLOCAT Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport

Scope: Report design and layout · Modular chapter system · Infographics and maps · Country fact sheets · Icon set · Companion website

Overview
The Global Status Report is SLOCAT’s flagship publication, a one-stop reference on the data, trends and policies shaping sustainable transport worldwide. Since 2018 and over four editions, it has grown into a collective effort involving more than 300 experts from over 200 organisations around the world. For the 4th edition, I designed the full report system, from the cover and chapter layouts to the data visualisation, country fact sheets and the website that brings it all together.

A modular report
Rather than one long document, the report is built as a series of modules that each work as a standalone mini report. The topics include the just transition, transport pathways to climate goals, regional overviews, transport sub-sectors and modes, transport and energy, and economics and finance. Each module has its own colour, opening spread and table of contents, so readers can download only the chapter they need, while the shared grid, typography and icon language keep the series clearly one publication.

Making dense data readable
The report is data-heavy, so much of the work went into charts, infographics and maps that make complex findings quick to scan. Every figure follows one consistent style, with clear hierarchy, a restrained palette and callout boxes that pull out the key insight, so policymakers can get to the point without wading through the text.

Country fact sheets
The country fact sheets give concise overviews of transport in 31 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, North America and Oceania. I designed a two-page template that holds a large amount of data, from transport demand and emissions trends to decarbonisation pathways and policy indicators, in a layout that stays consistent and comparable from country to country.

Icon system
A custom icon set covers transport modes, policy themes and sustainability topics. The icons run through the cover illustration, chapter openers, key findings and website navigation, giving the whole project a recognisable visual thread.

Companion website
The accompanying website extends the report online, with an overview of each module, regional overviews, the country fact sheets and downloads for the full report, individual chapters and key takeaways.
